Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-09-26
This policy explains how Tennis Assistant (the “App”) handles your data. The App runs entirely on your device by default: no account is required and your data is not sent over the internet. Data leaves your device only when you use the optional Pro features described below.
The App is available for iPhone/Apple Watch (App Store) and for Android/Wear OS (Google Play). The general sections below apply to both; platform-specific differences are described in the Android version section.
Data kept on your device
Everything you enter — matches, scores, training logs, equipment, and your notes — is stored locally on your device (using Apple SwiftData). We do not have access to it.
Racket photos and the share card
If you add a photo to a racket (from the camera or your library), the photo is resized, its location data is removed, and it is stored on your device. The camera is used only when you choose to take a photo; from your library only the photo you pick is received, and the rest of your library is not accessed. If Pro sync is on, the photo is copied along with your other data to your own iCloud account (iOS) or to the hidden app folder in your own Google Drive (Android). Racket photos are never sent to us or to the AI Coaching server.
The match share card is created on your device and is not uploaded to any server. It is passed only to the app you pick in your phone's share menu, when you tap Share; that app's terms apply. The card may show your opponent's name; you can hide it before sharing.
AI Coaching (Pro — optional)
When you choose to use this feature, your aggregate (summary) data is sent through a secure server to our AI provider to analyze your form and generate suggestions.
- Sent: match results, scores and court surfaces; training summary counts (number of sessions, duration, focus areas, average feel rating).
- Not sent: your free-text notes are not sent. Opponent names are not sent either — they are replaced with a pseudonym (“Opponent 1”) before leaving the device, so repeat-opponent patterns are preserved while nobody's name ever leaves your phone. No personal identifiers, location, contacts, or advertising identifier (IDFA) are sent.
- Processors: requests are routed through a secure server (hosted on Vercel) to our AI provider Anthropic (Claude) and processed only to produce the response. We do not persist this data on our own servers; the provider's processing is subject to its own terms.
- A signed Apple subscription receipt (containing no personal information) is sent to verify your active Pro subscription.
iCloud Sync (Pro — optional)
If you enable this feature, your data (including racket photos) is stored in your own private iCloud account (Apple CloudKit) and synced across your devices. This data resides in your Apple account; we cannot access it. Apple's privacy terms apply. You can turn the feature off or manage your iCloud data in Apple's settings.
Apple Health (Apple Watch)
When you keep score on Apple Watch, the App starts a workout session for the duration of the match so the score screen stays on when you lower your wrist. If you allow it, a Tennis workout (duration and active energy burned) is written to the Health app when the match ends; measurements such as heart rate are recorded by Apple Watch itself during the workout.
- The App does not read your Health data; it only writes this workout.
- Health data stays on your device (and in your own iCloud account if you use Apple's Health sync). It is never sent to us, to the AI Coaching server or to any third party, and it is not used for advertising or marketing.
- You can revoke access at any time in the Health app on your iPhone; you can still keep score without it.
Subscriptions
Pro subscriptions are managed through the Apple App Store on iOS and Google Play on Android. We do not see or store your payment or card details; these are handled solely by Apple or Google.
Android version (Google Play)
The Android phone app and the Wear OS watch app follow the same principles as above; Apple services are replaced by the Google services described here.
On-device storage and Android Auto Backup
Your data is kept in a local database on your device (Android Room). If Android's Auto Backup is on, this database and the app settings are copied by Android's own backup mechanism (together with racket photos) to the backup in your Google account and when transferring to a new device. This backup is managed by Google; we cannot access it. You can turn it off in your device's Settings > Google > Backup.
AI Coaching and Google Play Billing
What AI Coaching sends and does not send is the same as described above (opponent names are pseudonymized, notes are not sent). Instead of an Apple receipt, Google Play's purchase token is sent to our server to verify your Pro subscription; the server uses it only to confirm with Google Play that the subscription is active and does not store it. The token contains no personal information (name, email, payment details). Subscriptions and payments are handled by Google Play; we never see your card details.
Google Drive sync (Pro — optional)
This is the Android counterpart of iCloud Sync. If you turn it on, you choose a Google account
and grant access; your matches, training and equipment (including racket photos) are saved to a hidden app
folder in your own Google Drive (appDataFolder) and synced across your Android devices.
The App only requests access to that folder (drive.appdata) and cannot see your other
Drive files. This data is never sent to us or to any server of ours; it lives only in
your Drive account and Google's privacy terms apply. You can turn sync off in the App, and delete the
backup completely under Google Drive > Settings > Manage apps > “Tennis
Assistant” > “Delete hidden app data”.
Wear OS watch and Health Connect
When you keep score on your Wear OS watch and grant permission, the App reads heart rate and active calories from the watch's sensors (Health Services) for the duration of the match and runs a workout session so the screen stays on. The match score and this workout summary are transferred only to your own phone via Google Play services' device-to-device connection (Wearable Data Layer).
If you allow it, the phone writes the following records to Health Connect when the match ends:
- Exercise session (tennis; start/end time and a title with the opponent's name),
- Active calories burned (during the match),
- Heart rate (values measured by the watch during the match).
- The App does not read any data from Health Connect; it only writes these three data types, so that your own workout appears in your other apps connected to Health Connect.
- Health and sensor data stays on your devices (watch, phone and Health Connect). It is never sent to us, to the AI Coaching server or to any third party, is not sold, is not used for advertising or marketing, and is not included in Google Drive sync.
- You can revoke Health Connect permissions at any time in your phone's Settings > Health Connect (or the Health Connect app) and delete the written records there; if you deny the sensor permission on the watch you can still keep score.
Advertising ID
The Android version does not use the Advertising ID either and contains no third-party analytics or advertising libraries.
Tracking and advertising
The App does not track you. It uses no third-party analytics, ad networks, or advertising identifier (IDFA).
Notifications
Restring/equipment reminders are scheduled locally on your device; no data is collected for them.
Deleting your data
You can delete your on-device data by removing entries in the App or deleting the App. If you used iCloud Sync, you can manage or delete the iCloud copy from your Apple account settings. Tennis workouts written to Health can be deleted in the Health app. On Android, you can delete the Google Drive backup under Drive > Settings > Manage apps, and records written to Health Connect in Health Connect. No persistent data linked to you is kept on the developer's server, so there is no separate account to delete.
Children's privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Updates are posted on this page and the “Last updated” date above changes accordingly.
